DescriptionTRI-COUNTY ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATIONPOSITION SPECIFICATIONS/DESCRIPTIONSPOSITION: LinemanREPORTS TO: Crew Foreman/Crew LeaderDEPARTMENT: OperationsDIRECTS: NoneEFFECTIVE: February 2017EXEMPT STATUS: Non-ExemptPURPOSE OF POSITION:To provide the services necessary to carry out the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution and substation facilities of the Cooperative.MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:Required: High School diploma or equivalent is required.Must have completed an approved apprenticeship program.Trained in construction and maintenance of overhead lines, underground lines and substations.Must have valid Georgia Class A commercial driver's license. Must meet DOT certification requirements.Must be able to perform heavy physical labor and work outside in all typesof weather conditions.Must be able to lift up to a maximum of 100 pounds unassisted.Must be qualified and skilled in climbing wood poles and ladders.Must be knowledgeable in the use, care and testing requirements for PPE that is used in line work.Must have the skills and knowledge to work in a lead role while on call.Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.Ability to work overtime and be on an on-call rotation that will require work outside of normal business hours is required.Preferred: Experience working with an electric cooperative.Ability to use laptops and tablets, such as an IPad.ITS qualified with switching authority.Certified in CPR and DOT flagging.Ability to operate a forklift.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Physical work-Examples: 35% walking, 35% standing, 5% sitting, 15% Lifting (maximum 100 pounds unassisted), 10% pushing and pulling. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisorConstruct overhead and underground distribution facilities in accordance with Rural Utilities Service construction specifications and follow all company, state and federal safety guidelines.Maintain distribution facilities, replacing materials, equipment, line apparatus andmetering devices. This work will often be performed with distribution lines in an energized condition to avoid member outages.Perform line switching duties while maintaining an awareness of problems that can be caused by line switching and taking all precautions involved with line switching and voltage regulators on switched lines while supervised as needed.Operate bucket truck, digger derrick truck and excavator.Cut and trim power line right-of-ways and operate chainsaw and other timber cutting equipment safely.Safely convert existing primary lines to additional phases or higher voltages under direct supervision.Patrol distribution lines, completing necessary inspection forms and taking necessary maintenance steps for correction under supervision.Install, remove, transport and store in a safe manner line equipment to include, but not limited to, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors and other protective equipment.Select correct meters for various applications and install when required.Select, install and connect transformers in two and three transformer banks under supervision. Connect transformer windings in series and in parallel and be able to locate a faulted transformer in a bank.Assist in the instruction and training of apprentices.Maintain all equipment in operable, clean and safe condition.Responsible for the knowledge of and abiding by the Board of Directors approved Georgia EMC Safety Manual and Tri-County EMC Operations Manual.Immediately report all accidents or property damage to supervisor.
